Can’t find your ThemeForest license key? (aka, Purchase Code)
It’s important to keep your website up to date. We’ll show you how to find your ThemeForest license key so you don’t miss an update.
Not updating your theme, plugins or WordPress core can lead to serious issues – malware, viruses, broken functions, or even the entire site going down. But in order to perform the updates as they become available, your website has to receive them. If you purchased a theme or plugin on ThemeForest (aka, Envato), you’ll want to make sure you have the proper license key in place to receive updates as they become available. This article and the video below will explain how to find your ThemeForest license key to make sure you don’t miss an update.
License Key: AKA Item Purchase Code
The “license key” you’ll be looking for is also known as a “Purchase Code” (or Item Purchase Code). Depending on what you purchased, there may be different places to get it. If you purchased a WordPress theme, you’ll likely want to go to ThemeForest.net. If you purchased a WordPress plugin, you’ll want to go to CodeCanyon.net. Either way, it doesn’t really matter because both these website’s are part of a larger website / company called Envato. Logging into ThemeForest.net will also log you into Code Canyon and visa versa.
Once you’re logged in, do the following:
- Hover over your username near the top right corner
- Click on “Downloads” in the dropdown menu
- Find the theme or plugin you purchased and hover over the “Download” button
- Click on “License Certificate & Purchase Code” in the dropdown menu (Either PDF or TXT file are fine)
- Download the file to a place on your computer that you can easily find (e.g. Desktop)
- Open the File and find the “Item Purchase Code” – this is your “license key” or the code you’ll want to install
Based on your theme or plugin, the license key (or Purchase Code) can be installed on different sections. For a theme, there’s usually a section under “Theme Options.” For plugins, you can often find a section under “Settings” (or “License,” etc). After you’ve installed your Envato license key, you can start receiving updates as they become available.
